An Office Workers Guide to: Staying Safe In The Sun

Working in a hot office
The temperature in our office is currently 24°C although this is the coolest that it's been since lunch.

In light of the current heat wave that seems to be sweeping both the UK and America, we wanted to remind those of you working in an office that you need to take care and stay safe whilst working in high temperatures.
Get your sun-cream on and your BBQ's lit...

Weather forecasters have predicted that the unusually hot weather experienced over this weekend may continue well into July, making it the UK's longest spell of hot weather since 2006.

Saturday has been confirmed as the hottest day of the year so far when temperatures reached 28°C in London although allegedly, the temperature has soared to 30°C in some parts of the country today with shops reporting that they have sold out of almost all BBQ's, sun-lotion and ice cream.

When you're working in temperatures like this, you need to remember your own health and safety, and for those of you in charge of other people you need to remember your staff.

If you're working in an office this summer be sure to have a fresh supply of cool water readily available, use air conditioning or a desktop fan and depending upon the temperature outside it may also be beneficial to open a window.

Remember to take regular breaks, even if it's just to the bathroom or to fetch a glass of water to avoid dehydration and drowsiness.

If you suffer from hay-fever allergies remember to take your non-drowsy medication; particularly if you drive to work or operate heavy machinery.

Finally, for those of you that smoke or if you eat your lunch outside - remember to wear sun protection! Stock up on your factor 50, sunglasses and hats and wear them to work to make sure that your skin, eyes and head are protected when you go outside.

Have fun and enjoy the sun!
