5 Reasons Why People are Ignoring Your Social Media Accounts

1/4/2014

Social Media
One of the important goals for every entrepreneur is to be seen and heard by a lot of people, as this will cause them to be remembered every time people are in need of their services. There are plenty of ways to expose your business to a wider audience. Establishing your online presence is a good example and various social networks like Facebook and Twitter are two examples of perfect mediums that can be used to reach out to people online.
However, merely creating social media accounts won’t automatically cement your existence on the web because people have too many profiles and websites to visit and you merely have a few seconds to get their attention. Maintaining social media profiles isn't an easy task which is why you can't afford to make mistakes that could lose you a lot of followers.

If your business is to thrive online, you’ll want to avoid making any mistakes that could get you ignored.

1.) The frequency of your updates

You have to balance the time between your posts because updating in rapid succession can be an irritating sight whilst seeing less of you can be equally harmful for your business. People will definitely ignore you if you keep this up which is why you should observe and control the pace by which you're posting. Find your balance and keep it that way to keep people interested in what you have to say.

2.) You're not making sense

Users have only a little time to read your post and you have to make it count. However, some people are posting absolute nonsense on their newsfeed and that causes them to look "spammy" which is a major turn-off. Keep in mind that you are not a robot that spouts automatically generated responses, so post something meaningful that your followers will appreciate and share with others.

3.) Most of your posts are promotional

Every business has something to sell, but promoting your products or services every single time can be nauseating. If there's one thing that every entrepreneur needs to know about the majority of Internet users, it's the fact that they don't want to be sold something on a regular basis. Your social media profiles should be used properly if you want to be taken seriously. Again, the key to this is balance. Moderate your promotional posts on all of your social media accounts.

4.) No interaction with your followers

There's nothing worse than giving your followers the cold shoulder on any social network because they'll feel insignificant, especially those who have questions. If you keep this up, your followers will gladly return the favour and un-follow you without a second thought. Of course, you don't want that to happen, right? Interacting with your audience is important if you want to stay relevant, so take the time to respond to any comments, queries or appreciations you receive to keep them subscribed and engaged.

5.) You're not interesting enough

People are following the profiles that capture their interests but if what you're posting is dull or uninspiring you'll definitely fall behind. No one will pay attention to you if you're too boring and repetitive which will ultimately get you un-followed. Your goal is to expand on the number of your followers and you can achieve that by writing or posting something appealing to them. It could be an inspirational quote, success story or even a positive review of your products/services - as long as it's interesting.
The good thing about making mistakes is that you can fix them and it's never too late to do so. Be sure to keep these things in mind if you want a lot of people to follow or subscribe to any social media profile you own.

Kayleigh is quite simply one of the most efficient VAs I have ever worked with. Whatever I ask for is delivered without fuss, with appropriate reminders, and often with a good suggestion proffed too. She has brought clarity and consistency to some complex newsletter and events tasks I had been struggling with. She works very effectively with others too. I have reason to be grateful to Kayleigh every week and so happy she is part of our team.
