Advice and support for small business owners and authors.

Is it okay to sell during a pandemic?

Is it okay to sell during a pandemic?
Read time: 1 minute and 6 seconds
When the Coronavirus became a Pandemic and the UK went into lockdown, I stopped marketing my services, as did a lot of people.

While I was conscious about still needing to earn money, I didn't want to come across as heartless, unfeeling, money-grabbing or desperate.

So, I hung back for a little while, unsure of how to move forward.

But the truth is that, pandemic or not, we all need money to survive.

Want to know a secret?
There are still people out there who need and want what you have to offer, right now.

So, yes, it is more than okay to sell during a pandemic.

You just might need to think a little more about how you do it.

For example, I have a client in the holiday industry who's decided to change their entire social media marketing strategy. Now, instead of 'selling' for today, they're sharing travel inspiration for the future.

So, here are my top tips for selling during a pandemic:

  • Be genuine and don't be insincere with your clients. They'll see right through you.
  • Don't make all your communication about selling - check-in with your clients and customers and do what you can to help them. Remember that motivation and inspiration counts!
  • Stay visible! Now is NOT the time to stop marketing.

As a final point, I'd recommend that you return the favour.

If people are supporting your small business by buying your products/services, invest a little of your own money into other small businesses.

Whether it's buying a carton of eggs from your local farm or getting a freelancer to do some work on your website; let's support each other.

Kayleigh is quite simply one of the most efficient VAs I have ever worked with. Whatever I ask for is delivered without fuss, with appropriate reminders, and often with a good suggestion proffed too. She has brought clarity and consistency to some complex newsletter and events tasks I had been struggling with. She works very effectively with others too. I have reason to be grateful to Kayleigh every week and so happy she is part of our team.
