Read time: 49 seconds “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato Without music, life would be pretty dull. I'm listening to it right now (and I won't lie, it's a song from Frozen 2!) Why? Because I am almost ALWAYS more productive when listening to music than when I'm not. In fact, research shows that listening to music increases productivity, but there's a lot of discussion around what works best.
I find that lyrics can sometimes be distracting, especially when I need to buckle down and focus, i.e. when I'm writing blog articles or proofreading which is why I tend to opt for classical music or nature sounds for this type of work. When I'm working on helpdesk support, uplifting pop/country music is essential, especially when dealing with those "tricky" customers! So, how do you find what music works for you? Experiment. Create different playlists for different tasks, each containing different genres of music, and pay attention to your productivity (and your mood!) Music can lift you up but it can also bring you down. If you find yourself feeling low, it's time to change things up. Try it and let me know what works for you! Comments are closed.
